Rule of Thirds Sketch Sheets

You’ve heard of the “Rule of Thirds”, “The Divine Ratio”, “The Golden Rule”, come on, I know you have. Its that magic division that designers and photographers use all of the time, a ration that is so prevalent in nature that the Pythagoreans said it came from heaven.

Dividing a medium and placing content/objects within or on a third provides for a pleasing balance. The designer side of me is aware of it. But sometimes I forget about it, sometimes it just doesn’t occur to me. So I came up with a series of sketch sheets or graph paper if you prefer that is divided into thirds already, so now I have a visual reminder. And I have decided to share them with you.

The paper comes in 2 sizes and 4 formats. Sizes are A4, for those who use it, and Letter for the rest of us. The formats are Illustrator 10, because not everyone is using the latest version, SVG for those using Inkscape, PDF for those who just want to print them out and PSD for the Photoshop users. (I plan to release Fireworks PNG versions soon, I just wanted to get these out there) Both sizes are available in all formats, and they are all in one convenient zip file for your downloading pleasure. They’re not much to look at, nothing fancy (its up to you to add the ‘fanciness’), but you can get them here if you want.
